Which of the Following Jockeys Rode a Double on Day 2 of Royal Ascot 2016?

A) Ryan Moore, B) Frankie Dettori, C) William Buick

If you’re not sure what races are included on Day Two of Royal Ascot, then here’s a sneak preview of the action.

Day Two of Royal Ascot starts with the Group 3 Jersey Stakes over 7 furlongs, which was won last year by the now multiple Group 1 winning Ribchester. His owners Godolphin look sure to try and win the race again this year with Dream Castle, who’s already been backed into favouritism.

It’s then the turn of the fastest 5-furlong two-year-old fillies around in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes, and we can only hope that we see a performance to rival either of the last two winners Acapulco and Lady Aurelia – who were both trained by Wesley Ward. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the American Trainer’s happy Like A Fool has been installed as favourite to bring up the hat-trick after winning last time at Keenland.

It’s then the turn of the older fillies in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes, a Group 2 that the last 3 winners Integral, Amazing Maria and Usherette have used as a stepping stone to Group 1 success. This year’s field looks a competitive one, as it is headed by recent Epsom scorer Laugh Aloud, but she may have to take another step forward with the likes of Usherette and Qemah amongst her possible opponents.

There’s then Group 1 action to look forward to in the Prince Of Wales Stakes, and Ulysses, Jack Hobbs and Cloth Of Stars will be hoping to add their names to a role of honour that includes Ouija Board, Nayef, Dubai Millennium and the dual winner Mtoto.

The Hunt Cup is next, and the mile handicap is one of the most highly-competitive races of the year. Such is its competitiveness, that it’s hard to get a horse in to it that has something hidden from the handicapper, though Fastnet Tempest is high on the list of horses who could find the necessary improvement to get their head in front.

Day Two closes with the Sandringham Handicap, a mile race for 3-year-old fillies. John Gosden won last year’s renewal, and again has high hopes with Icespire, though it will be interesting to see if some of the fillies who finished down the field in the 1,000 Guineas can take a step forward.
