Wimbledon Champion Jana Novotná Passes Away

The 1998 Women’s Singles Wimbledon Champion born in Czech has passed away at the age of 49.

Jana Novotná who beat Nathalie Tauziat in the 1998 final went on to win 24 further singles WTA tour titles, in addition she also shared 12 grand slam double titles plus 4 grand slam mixed doubles.

Novotná was inducted to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2005 having retired from the professional tour in 1999 with a total 100 titles.

Speaking of Novotná, Steve Simon, CEO of WTA said
“Jana was an inspiration both on and off court to anyone who had the opportunity to know her. Her star will always shine brightly in the history of the WTA. Our condolences and our thoughts are with Jana’s family.”
