What Is A Lucky 15 Bet?
A Lucky 15 bet is a popular bet which allows you to combine four selections into a multiple bet comprising four singles, six doubles, four trebles, and an accumulator – which is 15 bets, hence the name Lucky 15.
Most bookies will let you choose Lucky 15 selections on a wide range of sports such as horse racing, football, tennis, and golf. Many will also let you place multi-sport Lucky 15s, allowing you to combine your fancied selections from a variety of sports into one bet.
For the purpose of illustrating this, consider your four selections to be called A, B, C, and D, and you can see how these selections are combined in the example of a Lucky 15 below. The “Xs” mark which selections are used in each bet.

When placing a win Lucky 15, you simply multiply by your stake by 15 to get the total cost of your bet. If you want to place an each-way Lucky 15, simply multiply your stake by 30. For example, a £1 Lucky win 15 would cost £15 and a £1 each-way Lucky 15 would cost £30.
Advantages Of A Lucky 15 Bet
The main advantage of a Lucky 15 is it gives you the best of both worlds. You’ll get some money back if one of your selections wins or places. Many bookies also boost one winning selection on a Lucky 15 by offering double or even triple the odds.
You’ll also have the chance to land decent winning bets, with those doubles, trebles, and especially your acca. Luck 15 bets are especially popular at big horse racing meetings, where punters get the chance to combine selections at big odds.
For example, imagine all those big juicy handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival or Royal Ascot. You could easily combine winning selections at say 12/1, 14/1, 16/1, and 20/1. A £1 Lucky 15 on those bad boys would cost £15 and return £88,703. A £1 each-way Lucky 15 would pay £89,857 if each-way terms were a ¼ of the odds. Even if all four of those selections only placed, you’d still win £1,154.
You could also have all sorts of combinations of winners and placed horses that would offer a variety of different sized payouts.

Difference Between a Lucky 15 and a Yankee
A Yankee is basically a Lucky 15 but without the four single bets. That means you only pay 11 times your stake or 22 times if you’re betting each-way. You obviously don’t get any return on a Yankee unless at least two selection come in but you can, equally, use the stake you were going to use to place your single to increase the stake on your doubles, trebles, and acca to try and maximise your returns. The choice is yours.
