US Open Tennis – Week 2
Published on 05/09/16
The US Open Tennis enters week-2 today, and the Men’s Singles is offering plenty of exciting matches and betting opportunities.
Del Potro vs Thiem
The resurgent Del Potro may be ranked 132 places lower than the admirable Thiem, but that’s because the Argentinean has spent much of the last few years of his career injured. However, his performances here so far, and at the Olympics, show he’s nearly back to his best. He’s won all of his matches in straight sets so far in the tournament and, having beaten Thiem in straight sets the only time they’ve met, the 2/1 for a 3-0 victory looks the bet of the day.
Del Potro 3-0 @ 2/1 (Skybet, Betvictor, Coral)
Wawrinka vs Marchenko
Marchenko had lost 4 matches on the bounce before the US Open and, though he’s done well to get this far, Wawrinka is expected to end that progress in ruthless fashion, just like the last time they met when he beat him 6-3 6-2.
Wawrinka 3-0 @ 4/5 (Sportingbet, Coral)
Nishikori vs Karlovic
A tricky match to weigh-up with the in-form Karlovic leading their head-to-heads, but Nishikori having won their last encounter in straight sets. Karlovic is certainly capable of pushing Niskikori all the way, though, as Karlovic is 38, Nishikori’s younger legs may just carry him to victory. The Japanese player has won all of his matches 3-1 so far, and it’s 14/5 for him to do so again.
Nishikori 3-1 @ 14/5 (Ladbrokes)
Murray vs Dimitrov
Murray knows he’ll have to bring his A-Game, as his Aussie opponent has beaten him on 3 of the 9 occasions they’ve met, and has a habit of taking a set even when he loses to Murray. However, Murray is in such good form that he’s expected to win, and 3/1 for a 3-1 victory looks to offer some value.
Murray 3-1 @ 3/1 (Ladbrokes)
Monfils vs Pouille
Pouille has to be admired for his amazing stamina, having played a total of 19-sets in his 4 matches so far, a run that includes victories over Bautista Agut and Nadal. Amazingly, the only previous match between the two players also went to 5-sets, and backing both players to win 3-2 could be the way forward.
Monfils 3-2 @ 8/1 (Ladbrokes)
Pouille 3-2 @ 12/1 (Paddy Power)
Djokovic vs Tsonga
Djokovic has won 6 of the last 7 hardcourt encounters between the two, and all 6 of those have been in straight sets. Tsonga also claimed his victory in straight sets, however Djokovic has won all of their grand-slam matches – and can do so again.
Djokovic 3-0 @ 4/5 (Betway)
