Times Up For Dunlop Hat-trick
Racing fans are in for a treat this Friday and Saturday with some great racing from Doncaster and Leopardstown
Doncaster Cup (Doncaster, Friday)
Times Up has won the last two Doncaster Cups and returns for his hat-trick bid with his stable in fine form. Third at York last time out was an ideal warm up, however one place in front of him that day was 2013 Ascot Gold Cup winner Estimate and she could prove a big thorn in his side. Whilst this has, undoubtedly, been Times Up major target for the season – the reverse forecast with Estimate might be a better percentage call.
Reverse forecast: Times Up & Estimate
St Leger (Doncaster, Saturday)
Kingston Hill is understandably the favourite and the Derby runner-up could outclass his rivals, however trainer John Gosden has the most impressive recent record in the race, winning it three times in the last seven years. Gosden has three possible representatives and it looks like Romsdal is the most fancied of the trio with stable jockey William Buick booked. Romsdal was also just a place behind the favourite in the Derby and is bred to relish the 14-furlong trip, whilst the drying ground is not sure to suit Kingston Hill.
Romsdal each-way 6/1 or better
Irish Champion Stakes (Leopardstown, Saturday)
Leopardstown stages an impressive 8-race card on which dual Derby and Juddmonte International winner Australia is the headline act in this 10-furlong Group-1 contest. He faces some potentially interesting and tough rivals in the shape of stablemate Magician, Noble Mission, The Great Gatsby and Mukhadram – but he was so impressive over the trip at York that he should be able to continue his trainer’s quest to establish him as the best race horse on the planet. If 2/7 isn’t your kind of price then a forecast with Australia to beat Noble Mission might pay dividends.
Forecast: Australia to beat Noble Mission
Matron Stakes (Leopardstown, Saturday)
Yorkshire Oaks heroine Tapestry turns up after beating King George heroine Taghrooda. That looks fantastic form, however that race was over 12-furlongs and this is a mile race. Her two market rivals Rizeena and Thawaany looks speedier types and one of them may cause an upset. Choosing between the two isn’t easy though, so try a reverse forecast in the hope that Tapestry can’t match either of them for speed.
Reverse Forecast: Rizeena & Thawaany
