The Falmouth Stakes – Best Tips For Horse Racing Today
This one-mile Group 1 contest is open to fillies and mares that are 3-years old or older.
The last 10 renewals have been won by five 4-year-olds, four 3-year-olds, and one 5-year-old, whilst no current trainer, jockey or horse has won it twice in the last decade.
Nine runners are set to go to post for this year’s renewal, and here’s our analysis and big-race tip.
The 3-year-olds get a handy 9lb from their elders, and Lucida has looked good in both course starts on good to firm ground. The Bolger stable is in better form than at the time of Royal Ascot, and she’ll surely go very close if not playing up at the stalls.
Avenir Certain 4/1
Won last year’s French 1000 Guineas and Oaks, but has disappointed in two runs this year. May prefer a bit of cut in the ground, too.
Last year’s winner has course form of 2/2/1/1, and would probably be favourite if she hadn’t blotted her copybook at Royal Ascot. Hard to dismiss that though, but could bounce back.
Finished 2 lengths behind Integral here last year in third, but only 5th on other course start in the Dahlia here in May when favourite. Beat Avenir Certain last time in France.
Looked good in winning two groups races, but could only manage 5th in her only attempt at a group 1. Another who’d probably prefer a bit of cut.
Amazing Maria 11/1
Swept past Ascot specialist Rizeena at Royal Ascot, but bookies seemed to have dismissed that effort as a fluke. Wouldn’t be the first horse that has improved remarkably for going to trainer David O’Meara.
Euro Charline 12/1
Was well-fancied to win Amazing Maria’s race at Royal Ascot but wouldn’t go in the stalls. The Botti stable is in much better form now though and she’s rated just 3lb inferior to top-rated Integral.
Arabian Queen 20/1
Followed up a good win at Epsom with a solid 5th in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. She was 2-lengths behind Lucida that day and not easy to see a reason why she’ll reverse the form.
Lady Dutch 66/1
Rated a stone behind the principles, but interesting that Marco Botti runs two horses. Pacemaker for Euro Charline?
Daily Racing Tips
With Avenir Certain and Bawina probably preferring softer ground, Integral flopping last time, Lucida getting more fractious at the start, and Fintry not looking good enough on her two Newmarket runs to date – it’s worth chancing that Amazing Maria’s Ascot run was no fluke.
