Saturday Spotlight: Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup
The Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup is a group-3 race run over 11 furlongs at Newbury (Saturday 1.45) It features some established horses and some potential improvers – and here’s our analysis and tip for this week’s Saturday Spotlight race.
Eagle Top 5/6
Easy to see why he’s top-rated on his runs behind Snow Sky and Postponed, and he’s also proven over course and distance. The soft ground should prove no problem after his decent run on it last time, whilst the Gosden stable are in brilliant form with 6 winners from their last 7 runners.
The Corsican 4/1
Listed winner who’s run well in a group 1 and a group 3 on his last 2 runs, especially in the group 3 where his jockey somehow got boxed in despite there being only 7 runners. Perhaps not the strongest of stayers at this trip, but stable in great form, and hold-up expert jockey Jamie Spencer rides for the first time.
Ooty Hill 8/1
Heralds from another in-form stable and open to any amount of improvement after just two runs. However he’s been off since April when he finished second behind French Oaks winner Star of Seville. Won his only 2-year-old start on soft ground and interesting if the money comes.
Won his last 2 starts over 12 furlongs, which were here at Newbury and at Meydan. However neither of those races have worked out particularly well. He also has to concede 5lb and upwards to all of his rivals, which means he’s only officially 5th best in at the weights.
Won this last year on soft ground, but that field was nowhere near as strong as this one. Two out of three on soft ground, but hasn’t looked in love with racing this year, and his stable have had a very hit-and-miss season.
Likes good-to-soft ground, but was comprehensively beaten by Sky Hunter last year, and hasn’t impressed on any of his 3 course starts. Officially the lowest-rated horse and, though his trainer William Haggas is having a marvellous season, this looks a tall order.
Though Ooty Hill is potentially a fly in the ointment, in the hope that he’ll need this run after 5 months off, the value-bet looks to be the forecast Eagle Top to beat The Corsican.
