Irish 1,000 Guineas Preview

The Irish 1,000 Guineas is the first fillies classic of the season in Ireland, and it is run over 1-mile at the Curragh (1.55 Sunday).

Irish 1,000 Guineas PreviewAidan O’Brien has trained 3 of the last 8 winners, Jim Bolger 2 of the last 9, Dermot Weld 2 of the last 10, whilst two English trainers won it for the first time in the last decade. Pat Smullen, Seamie Hefferman and Kevin Manning have all ridden 2 winners in the last decade.

14 runners are set to go to post for the 2016 Irish 1,000 Guineas.

Just 2 runs over 7-furlongs as a 2-y-o and, though she could have plenty of improvement to come at a mile, her form leaves her with plenty to find.

Had some very good form as a 2-y-o over 6-furlongs, and looked to relish step-up I trip when winning a group-3 on the all-weather on here seasonal debut. She looked outpaced early in that race, and should improve again for the step-up to a mile.

A classic ride for Aidan O’Brien’s daughter, but victory is a dream too far.

Cool Thunder

6-furlong maiden winner on only start. Tough ask, but a complete unknown quantity.

Group-3 course winner, but bred to excel at middle distances.

Another who could improve when stepped-up in trip. Best form with some cut.

Diamond Field

Looked to be more of a sprinter so far, and the owners look to have decided just to have a crack.

Jet Setting

Relishes heavy ground, and would only be of interest if the heavens open.

Only fourth favourite when winning prestigious group-1 here over 7-furlongs last year, but has been might impressive in two group-1 wins since, including English 2,000 Guineas. Supposedly being trained for the Oaks, but trainer decided to run her here when Ballydoyle was pulled-out.

Now Or Never

A Chance for Keiren Fallon to ride another classic winner, but she’ll have to improve again after impressive win in a group-3 trial for this race.

Pretty Perfect

Another with a middle distance pedigree, and has already run twice over 10-furlongs. Drop back in trip is not expected to suit, though looks the O’Brien second string on jockey bookings.

Finished behind Coolmore and Now Or Never in two different races, and it’s hard to see her finding the required improvement.

Sent of at less than half the price of Minding when only fourth over 7-furlongs here last year, and has not run since. If that wasn’t her true running, she could well give the favourite most to do, and the mile is expected to suit her.

Turrett Rocks

Best form gives her every chance of hitting the places, but she does look held on lines through Ballydoyle, and on her sixth in the English 2,000 Guineas.

Irish 1,000 Guineas Summary

The big-hitters have been backing Minding like she’s a certainty, and she could easily prove 3 or 4 lengths too good for these. Meanwhile, Turrett Rocks and Tanaza have each-way chances.
