Horse Racing Tips: Night Can Thunder Home In QEII

Horse Racing centres on Newmarket and Ascot over the next couple of days as Newmarket stages Future Champions Day on Friday and Ascot plays host to Champions Day on Saturday – and here’s our horse racing tips for the best races from the big meetings:

Newmarket Friday

Middle Park

Likely odds-on favourite Ivawood is 7lb clear on the ratings and would look a knocking bet if the ground was riding decent; however the ground looks unlikely to be any better than soft. With that in mind, I’d much rather take a chance on Irish raider Cappella Sansavero who is proven on the underfoot conditions and has been a solid yardstick all season.

Cappella Sansavero @ 15/2

Dubai Fillies’ Mile

Likely favourite Lucida has form that ties in with the very best three-year-old fillies around and won well here over 7-furlongs in last month’s Rockfel Stakes. The furlong extra trip looks likely to be a bonus than a hindrance and, if she handles the soft ground, she should win this for trainer Jim Bolger who has favourably compared his charge to his 1,000 Guineas winner Finsceal Beo.

Lucida @ 7/4

Dubai Dewhurst Stakes

Estidhkaar has looked impressive so far, will relish the step up to a mile, and should be up to taking this. However, Maftool only has 2lb to make up on official ratings, and should also relish the stiffest stamina test he has encountered so far. Respectively priced at around 10/11 and 7/1, the disparity looks too great and I’d rather chance a reverse forecast on the pair of them.

Reverse Forecast: Estidhkaar & Maftool

Ascot, Saturday

Champion Stakes

Despite the absence of dual Derby winner Australia, this is a fascinating little race with Cirrus Des Aigles, Free Eagle and Noble Mission looking the three to concentrate on. All three come here relatively fresh with Cirrus Des Aigles and Noble Mission looking sure to handle the prevailing heavy ground, whilst Free Eagle has only run on good or firmer in his brief three race career, and a reverse forecast Cirrus Des Aigles and Noble Mission looks the percentage play.

Reverse Forecast: Cirrus Des Aigles & Noble Mission

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

Custom Cut and Tullius should both relish the ground and may just get their big-day in the mud if none of the principals handle heavy ground. However, go back to May and Night of Thunder beat Kingman in the 2,000 Guineas. Richard Hannon’s charge was also second to John Gosden’s now retired superstar here in the St James Palace and should have too much class getting weight from his older rivals.
