Hatton’s Grace Hurdle Preview And Tip
Named after a three-time Champion Hurdle winner, the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle is a Grade-1 Race run over 2-miles 4-furlongs at Fairyhouse (Sunday 1.40pm). First established in 1994, it has been won by legends of National Hunt Racing including the likes of Jezki, Hurricane Fly, Brace Inca, Solerina, Limestone Lad, Dorans Pride and Danoli.
Winners have been aged 5 to 10, with 6-year-olds winning 5 of the last 9 renewals. Meanwhile Willie Mullins has trained 3 of the last 6 winners, and Ruby Walsh has ridden 2 of the last 4 winners.
7 runners are set to go to post for the 2016 Hatton’s Grace Hurdle.
Only his second run for trainer Gordon Elliott, but even he will do well to get this 10-year-old to win this. Would ideally prefer softer ground, and impossible to fancy on any of his last 3 runs.
Capable hurdler on his day, but his last 7 runs have been over fences. Chasing may well have also blunted some of his hurdling speed, and he’s unlikely to suddenly get quicker at the age of 9.
Runner-up at the last 3 Cheltenham Festivals shows he’s got lots of talent, and caught the eye running on late on his seasonal debut. He’s won 2 of his 3 races at this distance, and as also won both of his course starts, but Ruby Walsh opts to ride another of the Willie Mullins entries.
Winner of last season’s Triumph Hurdle, but has been beaten pointless 4-times since. Last year’s 4-year-old form also looks a long way before the best of these.
Vroum Vroum Mag
She’s a perfect 10 out of 10 since joining Willie Mullins, and the likes of Identity Thief and My Tent Or Yours were no match for the mighty mare in last year’s Punchestown Champion Hurdle. This distance will be no problem to her judged on her previous runs, and the likely winner if she is ready-to-roll on her seasonal debut.
Has 7lb to find on official ratings with Vroum Vroum Mag, but may have been flattered by her win in the Punchestown Mares Champion Hurdle. She’s only 5 though, and could still be improving, but looks the Mullins’ third-string on jockey bookings.
Comes out officially 1lb best at the weights, as she bids to become the first 4-year-old winner of the race. Not looked as good in two runs this season as she did at the end of last season, but looks sure to be suited by stepping-up in trip.
2016 Hatton’s Grace Hurdle Tip
Vroum Vroum Mag has been billed as the Willie Mullins Super-Sub, and it will be interesting to see if she keeps that tag if she hacks-up here. A shade of odds-on looks a fair price, with Shaneshill fancied for the forecast for those who want to play at bigger odds.
