Free Racing Tips For Today – Temple Stakes Preview

This Group 2, 5-furlong sprint (Haydock, 3.45 Saturday) is open to 3-year-olds and over, though only two of the classic generation have won it in the last decade.

Two 4-year-olds, three 5-year-olds, two 7-year-olds and one 8-year-old have won the remainder. Kingsgate Native is the only horse to win it twice in that time (at the ages of 5 and 8), though for two different trainers. Indeed, no trainer has won it twice in that period, whilst only Ryan Moore has ridden more than one winner (two).

12 runners go to post this year, with the ground forecast to be good to soft, and here’s the low-down on the runners.

Hot Streak

Many sprinters struggle as 3-year-olds, but Hot Streak took this last year at that age before running some creditable races in some of the top-sprints. Likes a bit of cut in the ground and has an advantageous high-draw. His form of 5-furlongs reads 1/1/3/1/3/5 and he’s going to be very hard to keep out of the frame for in-form trainer Kevin Ryan who has 6 winners from his last 18 runners.

Another 4-year-old and he won the group 1 Sprint cup over 6-furlongs at Haydock in September. His form over 5-furlongs doesn’t look quite as strong and may have bigger targets ahead.

All 3 wins have come over 6-furlongs and he hasn’t suggested he’ll improve for a drop to the minimum trip.

Big improver recently, but must take another step-up the ladder here. Not impossible.

Great Minds

Needs to find a few pounds on ratings, and his best performances have come when there’s been plenty of cut.

Jack Dexter

Looked to be coming back to form last time, but always looked to prefer 6-furlongs.

Justice Day

Another who needs to find a few pounds, and no obvious reason why he’ll beat higher rated runners.

Kingsgate Native

Dual winner is showing little sign of decline but would prefer the ground good or faster. Could surprise if ground dries up.

Pearl Secret

Probably wants the ground heavy to have a chance, though was runner-up here last year.

Definitely the unknown factor having won the All Weather sprint championship impressively. Yet to race on turf though, and it remains to be seen how he handles it.

Take Cover

Ran some great races last year, but has yet to impress on his seasonal debut, and may be one to back another day at a big price.

Lowest rated runner and will have to find significant improvement from somewhere.

Your Horse Racing Tip For Saturday

After last year’s victory, Hot Streak looks to have been primed for a repeat. A high-draw and the form of Kevin Ryan’s stable are massive plusses and he looks a really solid each-way bet at 11/2 with ToteSport or Betfred.
