Dubai World Cup Night Preview

The Dubai World Cup brings together some of the best race horses on the planet, which is hardly surprising seeing as it carries a $10 Million prize fund, However, there’s also a fantastic supporting card to look forward to on what should be an exciting Saturday afternoon.

Ertijaal has been in fine form at the carnival so far, but many of the world’s best 5-furlong sprinters will have been brought to the boil with this race in mind. Last year’s winner Sole Power would be a popular winner but, as he’s looked slightly in decline of late, this may well go to the horse he beat into second last year, Peniaphobia. Goldream could also be interesting if returning to the form of his Prix d’Labbaye or Kings Stand wins of last season.

Last year’s Lingfield Easter Classic winner Tryster has produced his trademark turn-of-foot to notch-up two wins at this year’s this Carnival already, one of which was the Group 1 Jebel Hatta. He had Farrier, Ertijaal and Harry’s Son behind that day and looks sure to make a bold bid for this Dubai Turf if he gets some racing room from stall-2. However, as that can’t be guaranteed, it might be worth taking an each-way chance on Real Steel, for whom Ryan Moore has been booked. Intilaaq also can’t be ruled-out.

Duramente looked a potential world star when winning two of the legs of Japan’s Triple Crown, however he was denied the chance to prove his class in the Arc when injury curtailed his season. However, since then, he oozed class in a high-quality Group 2 in February, and he offers a bit of value against likely favourite Postponed.

After a big shock in a relatively low-quality event last year, this looks a high-quality renewal of the the $10 million Dubai World Cup, with California Chrome likely to prove hard to beat. However, he could be vulnerable from a wide draw, and there’s been plenty of money this week for fellow American Frosted, who has perhaps gone under the radar a little this year due to the exploits of American Pharoah. Frosted’s trainer Karan McLaughlin also knows how to win the world’s richest race, having trained Invasor to win it in 2007.
