Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Cup Stakes Tips

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Cup Stakes (Friday 22 Sept) is a Listed Race run over 7-furlongs at Newbury. It is run on the straight course, and its most famous winners include Delegator and recent Group 2 winner Aclaim.

The draw has had little effect with winners drawn from stalls 1 to 12

3-year-olds have won 7 of the last 10 renewals, including the last 4

6 of those 7 winning 3-years-old have carried 8-13

Only 3 winners had won last time out

SPs have ranged from 15/8 to 25/1

Runner-By-Runner Guide

No 4-year-old has carried a penalty to victory in the last 10 years, but he’s proven at this level, and a course and distance winner.

Listed Race winner, but that race wasn’t as good as this, and he was poor last time. Also finished last on his only other run here, though that was a Group 3. Penalised.

Penalised 3-year-old who isn’t proven over 7-furlongs, and another who ran poorly on his only previous start here.

George William

Solid early season handicap form, but gone off the boil since, and has 10lb+ to find with the best of these.

Accidental Agent

Won an all-weather handicap off 85 last time and, though now rated 92, will have to find plenty of improvement to win this.

Dream Of Dreams

Seemed to relish the step up to 7 furlongs last time, though that win in a 5-runner race came on soft ground, as surface his sire adored. Has the services of Ryan Moore for the first time here, and can’t be ruled out.

Second Thought

The only horse to beat him in his last 5 races is Harry Angel, and he’s already won over 7-furlongs. Good statistical fit, if ready to go after 118 days off, and Robert Winston has ridden him on his last 4 starts.

Golden Stunner

Likeable sort who has been runner-up at Listed and Group 3 Level this season. Also 1 from 1 at Newbury, but ran worst race for some time last time out.

Belle Meade

Connections looking for ‘black type’ with this filly, but looks outclassed off an official mark of 89.

Eartha Kitt

Flopped at only previous try at 7-furlongs, but the way she flew home to be second over the stiff 6-furlongs at Pontefract suggests she’s worth another try at it. Still a bit to find though.

Princess De Lune

It’s a 154-days she won her only start over course and distance, but she’s related to useful sort, and a mark of 90 may underestimate her.

Urban Fox

Best run arguable came over course and distance and, if the first-time visor improves her a few pounds, she has every right to be on the premises at the finish.

Dream Of Dreams and Second Thought are both unpenalized 3-year-olds but, with the ground likely to be much faster than when Dream Of Dreams won last time, the unexposed Second Thought is much preferred. He was beaten 4½ lengths by Harry Angel when last seen but, with that horse winning a Group 1 by 4-lengths over the same course and distance since, there’s ever chance he can take this on route to better things.
