Cheltenham Horse Racing Tips: Cheltenham Festival Day 4
Well it had been a frustrating first couple of days for blog-followers with only a few each-way bets landed, but Day 3 got a whole lot better with the Package winning at 14/1. However, if you also followed the blog’s ante-post advice during our “Countdown to Cheltenham previews”, you were probably screaming Cole Harden home as much as I was – tipped up at 40/1 – get in!
Of course it would have been even better if I’d tipped up Uxizandre for the Ryan Air instead of the Champion Chase – but you can’t win them all.
Anyway, on to Day 4, Gold Cup Day – and you can read all our analysis and horse racing tips below.
Triumph Hurdle 1.30pm
I was pleased to see Nicky Henderson have a first and a second yesterday as I was starting to lose confidence in Peace and Co. However, I think he’ll be simply far too good for these. He’s 11/4 at the time of writing, but I can’t help thinking at least one bookie will be offering a bigger price in the morning for those with the bottle to wait.
4 points win Peace and Co @ 11/4 (various)
County Hurdle 2.05pm
Quick Jack has improved so much on the flat recently that, if he transfers that improvement to hurdles, he’s a shoe-in. There’s no guarantee, but he’s already shown useful hurdles form and can land this for his connections who’ve also won this race with Ted Veale.
Quick Jack 2 points win @ 7/1 (Various)
Albert Bartlett 2.40pm
Willie Mullins thinks Black Hercules is a monster, but I think Shantou Bob looks massively over-priced on some of his early season form. His trainer Warren Greatrex also won the World Hurdle yesterday and it could be a big-priced double.
Shantou Bob 1 point each-way @ 33/1 (Various)
The highlight of the whole week should live up to its billing this year as it looks a really competitive renewal. It’s likely to be run at a blistering pace with Coneygree in the field and he may well be a superstar. However, it’s very difficult to make all the running in the Gold Cup and Holywell looks the value punt after both Ma Filleule and The Package advertised the form of his win at last year’s festival.
Holywell 2 points win @ 11/1 (BetVictor)
Even if Warren Greatrex doesn’t win the 2.40, he should collect this with likely favourite Paint The Clouds who has looked most impressive – and should love the ground.
Paint The Clouds 2 points win @ 5/1 (Various)
Martin Pipe Hurdle 4.40pm
Trainer Harry Fry has had a couple of placed runners this week and can go one better here with Jolly’s Cracked It. The 6-year-old was fifth in the Betfair Hurdle, despite hating the soft ground, and looks leniently treated on his earlier novice wins.
Jolly’s Cracked It 1 point each-way @ 20/1 (Various)
Grand Annual Chase
Grumeti once had pretensions of winning a Champion Hurdle and should be up to winning this off a mark of 141 on ground he’ll absolutely love.
Grumeti 1 point each-way @ 25/1 (Various)
