Cheltenham Festival Gold Cup Tips
At the beginning of the year, the Gold Cup was gearing up to be one of the most competitive in interesting in recent history, with the likes of Coneygree, Don Cossack and Thistlecrack set to go head to head on the biggest stage of them all. However, with the trio, along with Vautour, having been ruled out through both injury and retirement, the field is now wide open for Friday’s race.
Despite the disappointment for trainer Tizzard in losing prized asset Thistlecrack to a season-long injury, both Cue Card and Native River are set to challenge for the Brit. Native River hasn’t looked back since landing the Mildmay on his final start as a novice, before winning the Hennessy and Welsh National, with odds of 7/2 set to attract the attention of many punters.
For Gordon Elliott, Lexus Chase winner Outlander has put himself in the mix for the Gold Cup, and could well challenge should the favourites come unstuck. Meanwhile, Willie Mullins holds the favourite for the race, with the two-time John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase winner also backed at 7/2. Having finished second behind Coneygree and Don Cossack in the last two years, many believe that it is finally time for the eight-year-old to shine.
