32Red Mile Preview

The 32Red Mile (Haydock 3.00, Saturday) was formerly known as the Superior Mile Stakes. It was first run in 2003, and was awarded group-3 status in 2013.

Sir Michael Stoute (two winners) is the only trainer with a runner to have won the race before, whilst Jamie Spencer and George Baker are the only jockeys with mounts to have previously ridden a winner of the race.

32Red Mile

Four 4-year-olds, four 6-year-olds, three 3-year-olds, and one 5-year-old have won the race.

10 Runners are set to go to post for the 2016 renewal of the 32 Red Mile.

Breton Rock

All wins at 7-furlongs or shorter, and would prefer some cut in the ground. A group-2 winner at best, but must carry a 4lb penalty.

A Listed winner this year, and also ran well in a group-3 last time. In and out performer though, and may find a couple too good even on a going day.

Custom Cut

Another who has won at Group-2 level, but not quite the force he was this year. However, last run was a step in the right direction, and has an each-way chance on that form, let alone his old form. Would be the oldest winner at 7 though.

Listed winner who won his only course and distance start. Tends to come up short at this level, and has 3-lengths to make up on Custom Cut on their running last time out.

After just 6 runs he’s the least exposed of the runners, and his last two runs suggested he could be higher-class. The downside is that this is his seasonal debut, but he can’t be ruled out with his stable smoking-hot at present.

Here Comes When

Group-2 winner in 2014, but has struggled for much of the last two seasons. Also run poorly both starts at Haydock, and others preferred.

Master The World

Seemed to put up an improved performance two starts back when second to Zonderland, but the rest of his form doesn’t suggest he’s up to winning this.

Mitchum Swagger

First and second on his two course starts, and his third in the Royal Hunt Cup was a good effort. Definitely got room for improvement, but his second to Buckstay last time was a little disappointing.

Two Listed wins to his name, and was fourth in the Jersey Stakes in between those. However, has been generally poor since, and best run this year came over 6-furlongs.

First Selection

Form figures look uninspiring at first but, after winning four of his 6 starts as a two-year-old, he has competed in four consecutive group-1 races. Drops significantly in class here, and stable amongst the winners last week.

32Red Mile Summary

Custom Cut looks the solid each-way selection in a trappy-race, but it might be worth taking a chance on the only three-year-old in the line-up in First Selection. He may have been struggling to trouble the judge in group-1s, but he showed as a 2-year-old that he knows how to win.
