2017 Renaissance Stakes Preview And Tip
The Renaissance Stakes (Sunday 24 September, 4.00) is a Group 3 Race run over 6-furlongs. It has been run at the Curragh since 1987, but this year will be run at Naas.
5-year-olds have been most successful with 4 wins, including 3 of the last 5
Winners ran 8 to 63 days previously
Only two winners had won last time out
SPs have ranged from 13/8 to 16/1
Gordon Lord Byron
None of the last 10 winners have carried 9-10 to victory, and this once Group 1 winning 9-year-old would be two-years older than any previous winner. Also 0/3 at Naas.
Two of the last ten winners have carried 9-8 to victory, but this one’s three victories have all come over further.
Won over 6-furlongs, but last 4 wins have all come at 5-furlongs.
Not disgraced on his last two runs returned to sprinting, and interesting that he was a very impressive winner of his maiden here. Would prefer quicker ground though.
Not disgraced when trying to give weight to the winner at York last time on ground quicker than he likes, and he should relish the soft/heavy ground here.
Listed Race winner, but not handled the step-up to Group 3 on last two runs.
Not rated that far behind the principles, but will struggle to win this on several collateral form-lines.
Group 3 winner who has also won a Listed Race over course and distance. However, has finished last on all 3 runs since June, and needs this returning to 6-furlongs to work the oracle.
2 from 2 over course and distance, and the form of her win over Music Box has been boosted by the winner since. Also beat Gordon Lord Byron two starts ago, but was well-beaten on heavy ground by Downforce earlier in the season.
Won 2 Group 1 Races last season, and no longer has to carry a penalty for those successes. Would probably be odds-on at her best, but she ran poorly when last seen 120 days ago. Stable red-hot at the St Leger meeting last week, and travelling her a long way if she’s not fully wound-up. Loves soft ground.
Won maiden over course and distance, and handicapper raised her 18lb for her second to stablemate Caravaggio over 5-furlongs last time. Ryan Moore prefers her of the Aidan O’Brien runners, but not guaranteed to reproduce her last run having been very in an out prior to that.
Quiet Reflection will surely win this if anywhere near her best, and it will be interesting to see if her gambling stable come for her. However, with doubts about her well-being, it may be worth backing heavy-ground loving Downforce against her.
