Runner-By-Runner Guide

Across The Stars

Second string for Sir Michael Stoute, and this 4-year-old won at the Royal Meeting last year. However, the form of that race wasn’t strong, and needs to find improvement.

Listed Race winner, but well held on collateral form after being well-beaten by Ulysses at Sandown last time.

Beaten all four attempts in Listed company, and shouldn’t be winning a Group 2.

Chemical Charge

Beaten in Group-3 company on last two starts, and this a further step up the ladder.

Dal Harraild

Improving 4-year-old who will have his supporters after Listed Race success at York last time, however was well-beaten by Chemical Charge on his penultimate run, and needs to find further improvement.

Won last year’s renewal from Highland Reel, but that horse reversed the form on much quicker ground in the King George later in the season, but obvious chance for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore.

Big horse who could improve this year, but last year’s Derby form has been let down on several occasions already.

My Dream Boat

Not at his best so far this season, but still posted respectable efforts behind Ulysses and Hawkbill. Would prefer softer ground but, having won here last season, he’s probably been primed for this meeting by inform trainer.

Easily forgiven his run on soft ground last time, and progressive before that having beaten several of these the time before.

Prize Money

Not the most consistent sort, but not without a chance on the form of his second at last year’s meeting, and his defeat of Postponed at Meydan.

Second Step

Retuned to something like his best after moving to Roger Charlton this season, but probably needs to find a bit more to be a win proposition.

Stellar Mass

Group 3 winner in Ireland, but that form doesn’t look strong enough.

Western Hymn

10-furlongs had looked his optimum trip for most of his career, but won over 14-furlongs at Chester last time. That track a law unto itself though, and not sure this race will play to his strengths.

Wings Of Desire

Only fourth in last year’s Derby, but finished in front of Dartmouth in the King George, Got 12lb from Dartmouth there though, and must race off level-weights here.

Dartmouth has a favourite’s chance, especially as he is trained by prolific winning trainer Sir Michael Stoute, but it’s worth remembering that he was a 10/1 second string for the stable last year. Therefore, as 4-year-olds have won the last 9 renewals, an each-way bet on Wings Of Desire looks the value call.
