Tottenham vs Southampton Analysis
15:00 Kick Off on 28th Sept
The bookies priced-up Tottenham as the third-best team in the Premier League pre-season but Spurs have yet to prove that theory right. Defeats against Newcastle and Leicester have left them languishing in seventh place, fully 10 points behind leaders Liverpool after just six matches.
They’re a better team at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, highlighted by wins over Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, but their defeat by a very defensive Newcastle team suggests they’re not firing on all cylinders.
Southampton came out of the blocks slower than many people expected, but Ralph Hassenhutl has shown his tactical prowess by leading the Saints to two wins from three away games this season.
Southampton’s biggest problem is they haven’t been able to contain teams with genuine attacking threats and Liverpool and Bournemouth have both highlighted Saints’ defensive deficiencies.
Tottenham vs Southampton Head-To-Heads
Southampton won the last match between the two sides at St Mary’s Stadium, but Tottenham have won their last three home matches against the Saints 2-1, 5-2, and 3-1.
Tottenham vs Southampton Team News
Tottenham reported no new injury worries after their defeat by Leicester. But it will be interesting to see if the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, and Eric Dier can fight their way back into the Tottenham team against Southampton if Mauricio Pochettino gives them a run out in the Carabao Cup against Colchester in mid-week.
Southampton also reported no new injuries after their defeat by Bournemouth but watch out as they also play in the Carabao Cup in midweek in a South Coast derby against Portsmouth.
