The 2016 International Premier Tennis League Preview

Published on December 1, 2016 by Tim @ Betting Gods

If you’re already missing your tennis betting after the 2016 ATP Season came to a close a couple of weeks ago with the ATP Tour Finals, then it’s time to turn your attention to the International Premier Tennis League, with the third renewal of the event taking place between December 2-11.

The Singapore Slammers are the current champions, and they will be looking to defend their trophy after beating the previous winners the Indian Aces last year in the final. However, the league now contains just four teams, as the Philippine Mavericks haven’t taken up their invitation to play. That means only 3-rounds of matches will be played this year, and these will be held in Saitama, Singapore and Hyderabad, with the latter also the location for the final.

The event will be shown live on Sky Sports, with the schedule as follows.

UAE Royals: Tomas Berdych, Ana Ivanovic, Pablo Cuevas, Martina Hingis, Goran Ivanisevic, Thomas Johansson, Daniel Nestor

Rules

Each match consists of 5 one-set matches: a men’s singles, a ladies’ singles, a men’s doubles, a mixed-doubles, and a legends’ singles. There are no tie-breaks but, if any match reaches 5-5, the players will play a “first-to-seven- points shootout” to determine the winner. All games count towards the match-score.

However, if the trailing team wins the fifth individual match, but is still losing the overall-match, the final match will continue to allow the trailing team chance to level the scores and win the match. However, the leading team only has to win one more game to win the match in this scenario.

If, after the 5-matches, the score is level, a super shoot-out takes place, with the winner being the team to get 10 points first.

Three-points are awarded to the winning team for each 5-set match, whilst one-point will be awarded to the losing team if they win at least 20 games. The top-two teams in the league after the 3-rounds of matches will then fight-out the final.

International Premier Tennis League Betting Tip

The bookies have been very slow to price-up the event but, with Ana Ivanovic usually very solid in the ladies singles, the UAE Royals make most appeal as a pre-tournament bet.
