Novak Djokovic is seeking a hat-trick at this week’s ATP World Tour Finals and is a top-priced 5/6 to lift the trophy (advised at evens last week), and it’s easy to see why.
The Serb has won 27 consecutive indoor matches and has won 41 of his 46 matches against his three group opponents, making it extremely hard to look elsewhere for the outright winner.
But don’t worry if you missed the evens because we’ve got plenty of other tennis tips for you.
If you’re not a fan of backing odds-on favourites, double London Champion Federer looks the only viable alternative at 4/1. However, with Djokovic almost certain to make the final, I’d sooner back the 3/1 for it to be a Djokovic/Federer final – to give us a chance of collecting on that and our outright bet on Djokovic, rather than having a saver on Federer.
Djokovic/Federer final @ 3/1
Of course, two players from each group qualify for the semi-finals, and a case can be made for backing both Berdych and Nishikori.
With Djokovic a near certainty to qualify from group A, it’s any one from Berdych, Cilic and Wawrinka – and a bet on on Berdych the way forward at 13/8. Wawrinka has been playing very poorly recently, whilst Cilic, who has been nursing an arm injury, may not appreciate the longer rallies that tend to be the norm on these relatively slow courts.
In Group B, Nishikori is fancied to beat Murray in his opening game and qualify for the semis at 9/5. The Japanese player has an excellent record against Murray and is definitely the most improved player in Men’s tennis this year. He was also very unlucky with the timing of his matches in Paris last time. The final player in the group, Milos Raonic, may have beaten Federer in their last head-to-head, but these slow courts will negate his big serve which is his major weapon.
