Sporting Index Review – Should You Join?
Published on 03/04/19
Sporting Index opened in 1992 with just five employees and a small number of members. But it’s come a long way since and now boasts by far the largest share of the UK and spread-betting market.
It launched online in 2001, and the following year it was so successful that it was purchased for £52.7 Million by Duke Street Capital. It was then bought by Hg Capital in 2005 for £75.8 Million. 10 years later in 2015, it was bought for a third time by Magnus Hedman, with the Swedish business man paying an undisclosed sum of money for it.
Nowadays, it offers members the chance to place spread bets and fixed-odds bets on a decent range of sports and markets, including pre-event and in-play. It also offers new members an excellent welcome bonus.

Ease of Use
Sporting Index does offer fixed-odds betting, but where it differs from many bookmakers is that it also offers spread betting. This can be both exciting and daunting if you’re not a hardened spread bettor, so just make sure you acquaint yourself with the wide variety of spread betting bets and the risks involved before you place your bets.
The Sporting Index website is excellent and offers you all the information you’ll need to place these bets. It’s also an easy site to navigate with clear headings on both desktop and mobile.
Range of Sports
You can bet on 18 different sports at Sporting Index, including UK horse racing and greyhound racing. You can also bet on many other popular sports such as football, golf, tennis, and boxing. American sports betting is available on American football, basketball, baseball, and ice hockey.
Horse racing markets allow you to bet on the finishing position of any horse, whilst there are also special markets for big races like the Grand National. These include winning distance, first to last distance, and total finishers.
Greyhound racing covers markets like trap challenges and crazy markets like “Barking Mad” in which the numbers of the traps that finish and second are multiplied.
You’ll be able to pick selections in football matches from around the world, in interesting markets like shirt-numbers and goals rush.
Sporting Index offers both pre-event and in-play betting, and cash outs are available on bets placed on many sports. There are also a variety of specials for key televised events including top Premier League matches and big horse races.
The support on offer at Sporting Index really is top-notch. In the top right-hand corner of the desktop page, you’ll see help, contact, and live chat tabs.
Click on the help tab and you’ll find loads of helpful pages which you can use to learn about spread betting. There’s also jargon buster page and there’s even a training centre where you can practice your spread betting first before betting with real money.
You can contact a helpful and friendly customer support team using live chat, phone, or email between the hours of 08.00 and 23.00. If you want to access these services on mobile, simply select help and support from the dropdown menu.

Our Overall Rating: 4.5 out of 5.0
Sporting Index is a well-established online bookmaker that has earned mainly excellent and great reviews. As it offers fixed odds and spread betting opportunities it also provides members with many different opportunities than many other online bookmakers. It offers an impressive range of sports and markets as well, with many chances to cash out bets.
It also must be commended on its excellent help and support and easy to use desktop and mobile platforms.
One slight area of worry for inexperienced bettors is you can lose with your welcome bonus if your losses exceed the £100 offer. But as this offer is free, we recommend you claim it and simply make sure you bet on markets in which you can’t lose more than the bonus.
