So far this week in the UK we’ve seen Catterick and Leicester abandoned on Tuesday, all racing except Wolverhampton abandoned on Wednesday, all UK racing abandoned yesterday and today both Chelmsford and Lingfield abandoned.
However despite freezing rain, inches of snow and national travel chaos, risk to life warnings and treacherous conditions in the UK the team at Southwell Racecourse have given the go ahead for racing fans, trainers and jockeys to travel 100’s of miles for their schedules races today.
With seven races scheduled at Southwell starting from 1345 have Southwell made the correct decision or is this incredibly irresponsible?

Grade 1 winning trainer Kerry Lee also tweeted:
I would have needed to have left with Magic Dancer at 7.30am. Look at the state of our MAIN road – no way would I send a horsebox out on that!! pic.twitter.com/YsbuojPSrO

With other Twitter users and racing fans quickly sharing their thoughts on the situation:
Wrong decision! Surely a few days without racing isn’t a big issue!

Not everyone is against the day going ahead however:
We have traveled safely to @Southwell_Races to work our horses on course since Wednesday. The team at Southwell have been tireless in their efforts to ensure the course and access roads are safe. #THANKS

But we’re asking for your thoughts.
Personally I feel it would have made much more sense to abandon racing for the day. If racing does even continue to go ahead we’ll have stacks of non-runners and it’ll make for very poor quality racing.
