Snooker Betting : 2017 World Grand Prix

Published on February 6, 2017 by Tim @ Betting Gods

Snooker’s 2017 World Grand Prix is only the third renewal of the Ladbrokes sponsored tournament, which started life in Llandudno in 2015 when Judd Trump won the inaugural event with a 10-7 win over Ronnie O’Sullivan. In 2016 it moved to Preston’s Guild Hall where it was the turn of Sean Murphy to claim the title as he beat Stuart Bingham in the final frame of a 10-9 thriller. This year it again returns to Preston, where 32 players will battle it out for the title between February 6-12.

The tournament is the 13th ranking-event of the 2016/17 season, and players earned their place in the tournament via the one-year ranking list, with rankings dictated by the money earned between the 2016 Riga Masters and last week’s German Masters. Matches are the best of 7 frames up to and including the quarter-finals, with the semi-final being the best of 11-frames, and the final the best of 19-frames.

The 2017 Ladbrokes World Grand Prix Snooker Preview

9/2 and 5/1 for Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Selby looks on the stingy side in an event without much prestige, especially as the best-of-7-frames format in the early stages lends itself to a greater chance of an upset. However, as both renewals have been won by English players in Judd Trump and Sean Murphy, it might be worth siding with a couple of home-based players here. Joe Perry has had a week to recover from his Dafabet Masters defeat by Ronnie O’Sullivan and may be ready to bounce-back, whilst Stuart Bingham looks over-priced considering he made the final last year,
