Everything You Want to Know About Newcastle
Newcastle Racecourse has been staging racing at its current Gosforth Park location since 1882. Its fixture list comprises both all-weather flat racing and jumps racing, with the racecourse putting on around 60 meetings each year.
Flat races were staged on turf until 2015, but the course switched to a Tapeta all-weather surface in 2016. The course stages many famous races, and it’s three-day meeting at the end of June is the highlight of the flat calendar. The Friday card stages the Gosforth Park Cup Handicap, whilst the highlight of Saturday’s card is the Northumberland Plate.
Jumps racing takes part during the autumn and winter months, with the highlights being the Fighting Fifth Hurdle in late November or early December, and the Eider Chase in February.
The left-handed courses are considered to be galloping tracks that are very fair, whilst the flat track is the only all-weather course in the country on which mile races can be run on a straight track.
