Everything You Want to Know About Sandown
Established in 1875, Sandown is one of the most picturesque and prestigious dual-purpose horse racing tracks in England, and it stages group one races on the flat and grade one action over fences.
The main flat track measures one mile and five furlongs and Sandown’s biggest flat race is the Group 1 Coral Eclipse run over 10 furlongs in July. The course also stages some high-profile sprint races over its straight five-furlong course.
Sandown’s uphill finish also lends itself to some exciting battles, many of which have come in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase over two miles in December. But Sandown’s biggest meeting is the Season Jumps Finale, which features both the Grade 1 Celebration Chase run over two miles and the Bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase run over three miles and five furlongs.
Other grade one action includes the Tolworth Hurdle in January and the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase in February.
