Everything You Want to Know About Salisbury
Salisbury Racecourse stages flat racing between April and October each year. It is not classed as one of England’s premier race tracks but many Group 1 winners have run here on their path to stardom including Mill Reef, Brigadier Gerard, Sir Percy, and Look Here Now.
Salisbury welcomes racegoers to around 16 meetings each year including its two-day Summer Holiday Family Races fixture in which the Listed Upavon Fillies’ Stakes and the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes are the two highlights.
The layout of the course is unique, with races up to a mile run on a fairly straight course that kinks slightly right at an elbow about half-a-mile from the finishing post. Races over longer trips are run around a right-handed loop that joins the straight course at the 7-furlong marker.
The finish is considered to be one of the stiffest in England, especially when the ground is soft, making it a real test of stamina for horses.
