Everything You Want to Know About Newmarket
Newmarket is one of the most famous racecourses in the world. It is the headquarters for flat racing in the UK and it also stages the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas, the first two Classics of the season.
There are two courses at Newmarket, which are the Rowley Mile and the July Course. The Rowley Mile is used in the spring and autumn, whilst the July Course is used in summer.
The Rowley Mile has a 10-furlong straight with a dip two-furlongs from home that tests the balance of horses before an uphill final furlong tests their stamina. The Rowley Mile stages a variety of Classic Trials and the Guineas, as well as many other big races such as the Cambridgeshire Handicap.
The July Course has a one-mile straight known as the Bunbury Mile, and the most famous race run on this course is the prestigious July Cup over six-furlongs. Both courses at Newmarket can host races in excess of two-miles.
