Everything You Want to Know About Kempton Park
Ideally situated close to London, Kempton is a dual-purpose racecourse that offers top-class jumps racing and all-weather flat racing throughout the year.
It was first opened in 1878 and is best known for staging the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day, which has been won by crowd-favourites such as Desert Orchid and Kauto Star. Other popular races at that two-day meeting include the Christmas Hurdle, whilst Kempton’s flat right-handed track provides many thrilling jumping spectacles. Another important national hunt meeting is 888Sport Chase Day in February.
The all-weather flat course is also flat and right-handed and the polytrack surface tends to suit horses with good ground actions. All races are run around at least one bend, with the final bend opening up in the straight to allow horses to attack the pacesetters on all sides. Popular flat races include the Group 3 September Stakes, which was used as a prep race by Enable before her 2018 Arc win.
