Everything You Want to Know About Haydock
Haydock Racecourse is one of the premier horse racing tracks in the North Of England. It stages both group one flat racing and grade one jumps racing, drawing big crowds from Liverpool and Manchester to around 30 different racing fixtures each season.
The round course measures one mile and five furlongs, with a home straight that measures four and a half furlongs. Notable races run on the round course include the Old Newton Cup and the Lancashire Oaks. Races run over five and six furlongs are run on the straight course, with the highlight being the group one Haydock Sprint Cup.
Despite its high-profile flat races, nowadays Haydock is better known as a jumps track. That’s because it stages the grade one Betfair Chase in November, which has been won by crowd-favourites like Kauto Star and Cue Card. It also stages the William Hill Grand National Trial in February, which is ideally positioned in the calendar after the Grand National weights have been framed.
