Everything You Want to Know About Doncaster
Doncaster Racecourse (often referred to as Town Moor) was opened way back in 1595, so it’s no surprise that it is the home of England oldest classic the St Leger. Nowadays, it is one of the most vibrant dual-purpose racecourses in the United Kingdom, with the St Leger being part of the four-day St Leger Festival in September.
Doncaster also hosts the first and last flat meetings of the turf season, with the opening meeting including the Lincoln Handicap. This takes place on Doncaster’s straight mile course, as do other important races such as the Group 2 Champagne Stakes and the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Trophy.
Races over a mile take place on the round course, which measures about two miles. Notable races that take place on this course include the Doncaster Cup and the season’s last big race the November Handicap.
Doncaster also stages some important national hunt races, with the Sky Bet Chase and the Grimthorpe Handicap Chase being the pick.
