Everything You Want to Know About Ayr
Ayr Racecourse opened in 1907 and now hosts high-quality flat racing and jumps racing. The highlight of the flat season is the three three-day Western Meeting that takes place in September. The main race is the Ayr Gold Cup, which takes place on the straight course, as do the Ayr Silver Cup and the Ayr Bronze Cup. Races over 7 furlongs and longer take place on the round course which measures a mile and a half.
The jumps track also measures around 12-furlongs and the two-day Scottish Grand National Meeting in April attracts big crowds for what is usually a competitive and entertaining festival. The main highlight is the Scottish Grand National which has been won by several Grand National winners over the years including Red Rum, Little Polveir, and Earth Summit. The other highlight is the Scottish Champion Hurdle, which has been won by Champion Hurdlers such as Alderbrook and Sea Pigeon.
