Everything You Want to Know About Fontwell Park
Fontwell Racecourse stages national hunt racing and its figure-of-eight track provides horses and punters with a unique and exciting experience.
The course opened in 1924 and is now owned by Arena Racing. It attracts plenty of racing spectators to its South Coast venue where is hosts about 24 fixtures each year.
Fontwell’s seasonal highlight is the National Spirit in February, which is named after National Spirit who won the Champion Hurdle in both 1947 and 1948. The race was once won by the top-stayer Baracouda and has been won more recently by popular horses like Lil Rockerfeller, Camping Ground, and Old Guard.
One of the other most popular races at Fontwell is the Southern National in November, whilst Fontwell also stages plenty of fun themed meetings such as its two-day Oktoberfest, its St Patrick’s Celebration in March, Summer Fun Days, Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s evenings, and its brilliant Winter Wonderland Boxing Day fixture.
