Everything You Want to Know About Exeter Racecourse
Exeter is regarded as one of the fairest racecourses in England. It is right-handed, galloping, and undulating, whilst the fences are reasonably stiff. This means that it is a great place to take young horses looking for racing experience, especially chasers.
The course has a long home straight in which there are four fences and run-in of 170 yards, meaning that races can change dramatically in the closing stages, especially on heavy ground when horses tend to make mistakes or run out of stamina as they get tired.
The course itself is situated on Haldon Hill, which gives its name to one of Exeter’s most prestigious races the Haldon Gold Cup. This takes place in November over a distance of 2 miles 1 furlong and 109 yards. The race is a handicap and it has been won by some great horses over the years including the universally popular Cue Card, Edredon Bleu, and Best Mate.
