About Dundalk

Everything You Want to Know About Dundalk

After the old turf course at Dundalk was closed in 2001, it took a six-year gap and a €35 million investment for Dundalk Racecourse to become one of Europe’s premier all-weather flat racing tracks.

The surface is polytrack and the oval-shaped course measure 10 furlongs. It has a two and a half furlongs run-in, whilst there are additional chutes where five-furlong races and one-mile contests begin.

Racing takes place at Dundalk throughout the year, with around 38 fixtures including many meetings that are run under floodlights. Much of the racing is of a low-standard but a variety of top-quality horses have run here including Group One winners such as Declaration Of War and Mastercraftsman.

Dundalk’s flagship events are the Group Three Mercury Stakes over five furlongs, the Group 3 Diamond Stakes over 1 mile 2 furlongs and 150 yards, and the Listed Patton Stakes over one mile. The latter was won by the Aidan O’Brien trained Mendelssohn in 2018.
