Everything You Want to Know About Cheltenham
Racing first took place at Cheltenham in 1815, and racing moved to its present iconic location in 1898. The Home of National Hunt Racing needs few introductions to jumps-racing enthusiasts, many of whom flock to many of Cheltenham’s top-class meetings which take place on the Old Course and the New Course.
Cheltenham’s season traditionally kicks-off with the two-day Showcase Meeting in October, and the action usually steps up a level at the three-day November Meeting, where the highlights include the Betvictor Gold Cup, the Greatwood Hurdle, and the Schloer Chase.
There’s also the two-day International Meeting in December featuring the International Hurdle and the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup. January’s Festival Trials day is also an important meeting featuring a variety of trials for the Cheltenham Festival in March.
However, no jumps meeting in the world is bigger than the four-day Cheltenham Festival, where the flagship events are the Champion Hurdle, the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the Stayers’ Hurdle, and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
