The Premier League betting for the 2019/20 is heating-up and, with so many betting markets on offer, we’ve compiled our list of pre-season bankers.
Liverpool – Betting Without Manchester City @ 8/15 BetVictor
Liverpool start the season as Champions League winners, but the big question on the lips of the Anfield faithful is can they win the Premier League this season. They were second to Manchester City by a single point last season and, in most people’s eyes, Pep Guardiola’s team are the only obstacle between them and the Premier League Title this season.
The good news is that you can back Liverpool to win the Premier League without Manchester City at around 8/15. Liverpool’s domination over the other 18 Premier League teams stretched to 25+ points last season and a settled Liverpool side should again be able to beat Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester United, whose squads don’t compare to Liverpool’s.
Potential pitfalls include injuries to defensive kingpin Virgil Van Dijk or Egyptian hitman Mo Salah, but Liverpool should be the only team that can give City a run for their money this season.
Leicester – Top 10 Finish @ 4/7 Bet365
Leicester have finished in the top-10 in the Premier League in three of the last four seasons, which suggests they should only be around 1/3 to finish in the top half of the table this season. They may not repeat their amazing Premier League victory of 2015/16 but there are a few reasons why they look capable of matching or bettering the ninth place they’ve finished in each of the last two seasons.
The appointment of manager Brendan Rogers suggests Leicester are looking for long-term solidity and his experience with Liverpool and Celtic suggests Leicester should be fighting for a place in Europe at the end of the season. The results may not have been spectacular after Rogers arrived at the end of last season, but it was noticeable that Jamie Vardy came back to form under the new system. Rogers has also made some good early signings and they look to have the best squad outside of the big-six of Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
Newcastle – To Be Bottom At Christmas @ 10/1 @ Bet365, Ladbrokes, Coral
Much has been made of Newcastle’s signing of Joelinton this week and only time will tell if the young Brazilian is good enough to fill the boots of past Newcastle centre-forwards like Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.
He may prove up to the task, but his track record doesn’t suggest he’s the kind of striker that will bag Newcastle 30 goals in his first season. His strike rate at both Hoffenheim and Rapid Vienna was very average, and Newcastle will probably have to find a proven goal scorer to play alongside him to get the best out of him.
It’s also asking a lot for a new strike-force to make an instant hit in the Premier League, especially under a new manager. Steve Bruce doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to the Premier League and it’s not hard to see Newcastle struggling early doors, just as they did last year before elevating themselves to safety in the second half of the season.
Newcastle have a tough start too, with an opening home against Arsenal, whilst they also face Tottenham and Liverpool in their first five games.
Admittedly, Newcastle to be bottom at Christmas isn’t really a 10/1 banker, but I do think punters willing to trade will be able to sell Newcastle at a lower price after the first few games of the season.
