The 2019 FA Cup Final between Manchester City and Watford kicks-off at 5 p.m. on Saturday 18 May at Wembley, and the big question is will Man City complete the first ever Premier League Title, EFL Cup, and FA Cup treble?
Check out our stats, analysis, and free tips for the 2019 FA Cup Final.
Manchester City Form
Man City may have fallen to Tottenham in the Champions League, but the 1-0 defeat in the first leg of that tie is the only time City have failed to win in their last 16 games in all competitions. Those 15 victories have included 10 clean sheets.
The total goals in those matches have varied greatly, with six 1-0 wins, three 2-0 wins, and two 3-1 wins, whilst there were five goals or more in four games.
Watford will have been disappointed to drop out of the top half of the table after losing their final game of the season, but a poor finish was understandable after they had booked their place in the FA Cup Final.
Despite losing their last three games, their overall results in their last 15 games produced seven wins, one draw, and seven losses, with both teams scoring in 11 of those games. Two games produced just one goal, one game two goals, six games three goals, one game four goals, whilst five games produced five goals or more.
Manchester City vs Watford Head-To-Heads
Since Watford’s return to the Premier League, matches between the two sides have been dominated by Manchester City who have won all eight league games and two FA Cup games.
City won the two FA Cup matches 3-0 and 4-2, whilst the eight Premier League games have ended 2-0, 2-1, 2-0, 5-0, 6-0, 3-1, 2-1, and 3-1.
The last three results should be the best indicator, and it’s interesting that both teams have scored in those games.
Manchester City’s FA Cup Final Record
City have won five FA Cup finals in total but have also lost five. Despite being the dominant team in English football over the last few seasons, Manchester City last won the FA Cup in 2011. They also reached the final in 2013 but lost to Wigan.
However, it’s worth bearing in mind they ‘ve have played in four League Cup Finals since that defeat and won them all, though they needed a penalty shootout to beat Liverpool in 2016 and beat Chelsea on penalties last year.
Watford’s FA Cup Record
Watford’s only FA Cup Final appearance was in 1984 when they lost 2-0 to Everton.
FA Cup Final Verdict 2019
Wigan’s 1-0 giant-killing win of 2013 will no doubt get a mention in the Watford pre-match team talk but, whilst lightning could strike twice, City are unlikely to prove as toothless under Pep Guardiola.
There’s also the not so small matter of City’s 10 match winning streak against Watford, but it’s still hard to be enthused by City’s best price of 1/4 to win in 90-minutes.
At bigger odds, as both teams have scored in their last three head-to-heads, prices around 15/8 for a Manchester City win and both teams to score looks worth a punt.
A smaller bet on City to win 3-1 at odds of 10/1 or bigger could also prove a bit of value, as City have won two of their last three matches against Watford by that score.
There also look to be an excellent case for backing Raheem Sterling to score the first goal. Sterling has scored first in two of his last three matches against Watford and went onto score a hat-trick in their latest match. He’s also found his scoring boots at Wembley for England, notching first and going on to complete another hat-trick in England’s 5-0 win over the Czech Republic.
