Hamilton Wins Fourth Formula 1 World Championship!

The British driver now has 4 F1 titles

He is now the most successful British driver in F1 History

He won the championship at the Mexican Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton has won his fourth world championship at the Mexican Grand Prix, after Sebastian Vettel failed to get enough points to keep his challenge alive.

This accomplishment makes Hamilton the most successful British driver, that has competed in Formula 1, as he has moved ahead of Sir Jackie Stewart for the number of championships won.

He now joins an extremely exclusive club of drivers, as only Sebastian Vettel, Alain Prost, Juan Manuel Fangio, and Michael Schumacher have four or more championship wins.

Despite having won the championship at the Mexican Grand Prix, Hamilton only finished ninth place, due to a collision with rival challenger, Sebastian Vettel. The two drivers collided on the first lap as both challenged to get ahead of Max Verstappen in the Red Bull. Because of the collision, Vettel damaged his front wing, and Hamilton developed an immediate puncture which sent him to the back of the field.

After the collision, on his radio, Hamilton asked his team: “Do you think he hit me deliberately?”, but they did not reply.

Both drivers were required to enter the pits for repairs and a set of new tyres, but Vettel was able to reach the pits first.

Vettel was able to make better progress from the collision, and moved up the field to fourth place, whereas Hamilton only moved up to finish the race in ninth place due to damage to his diffuser from the puncture. Despite the German Driver beating Hamilton, he needed to finish first or second to keep the championship alive.

In turn, the race was won by Max Verstappen, who led from the first corner of the race to the finish line. Valteri Bottas finished in second place, ahead of Raikkonen in third.

In an interview, regarding his championship win, after the race, Hamilton said: “Wow. I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who came out to see us,”

“The Mexican fans I think are the best around the world. I did everything I could. I had a good start and I don’t really know what happened at turn three, but I gave him plenty of room, but I tried my hardest to come back.

“A big thank you to my family and my team. Mercedes have been incredible over the last five years and I am so proud to be a part of it.

“I never gave up. It was not the race I wanted. I kept going right to the end. I just want to lift it up to my family, and god and my team.”

After the race, Vettel was clearly disappointed with the result, and conceding the championship to Hamilton.

He said: “Lewis has done a superb job all year and deserves to win the title,”

“I don’t fear him. I like racing with him. I would have liked a little more this year. Overall they were better.”

There are two races left in the season, with the next race being the Brazilian Grand Prix, where Hamilton will want to show why he is the champion.
