Non-League Football Tips & Preview

Published on April 27, 2017 by Darren @ Betting Gods

Lincoln City have finally secured their promotion to League Two, thanks to last weekend’s victory over Macclesfield Town, meaning that the final round of the season in the National League with focus upon the battle for playoff positions, as well as for safety at the bottom of the table.

Tranmere Rovers, Forest Green and Dagenham & Redbridge have all secured their participation in the season ending playoffs, with only a minor miracle for Dover Athletic stopping Aldershot claiming the final spot. Gary Waddock’s side hold a three-point advantage over the Whites, as well as a significantly better goal difference.

A point for Aldershot at home to Braintree Town would guarantee their place in the playoffs, while Dover will need to win away at Barrow and hope for a substantial goal swing in their favour.

At the bottom of the standings, both York City and Guiseley are hoping to save themselves on the final day, with Torquay United not quite out of trouble, despite two consecutive wins. Kevin Nicholson’s men will fancy their chances of guaranteeing their place in the National League for next season with a win against already relegated North Ferriby, while York City host Forest Green in a must-win encounter.

National League North

Meanwhile, it is a similar story in the National League North, with AFC Fylde having been crowned champions with a game to spare. Both Kidderminster and Halifax have already secured their place in the playoffs, as Darlington, Salford City and Chorley battle it out for the final position. Salford bosses Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson face a tricky final day against Darlington at Moor Lane, while things are not much easier for Chorley, as they take on Halifax. Chorley need to better Salford’s result in order to leapfrog them, with Darlington also in danger of slipping out of the top six on the final weekend.

At the bottom, two consecutive draws have seen Gainsborough Trinity take charge in the relegation battle, and with rivals Worcester City travelling to champions Fylde, they could well have already done enough to secure their survival. Dominic Roma’s men travel to take on mid-table United of Manchester, with their poor goal difference potentially costing them heading into the final day.

AFC Fylde to win against Worcester City @ 4/7 (SkyBet, Bet365)

Darlington to win against Salford City @ 3/1 (William Hill)

National League South

Ebbsfleet’s comeback victory over title rivals Maidenhead last weekend means that the battle for automatic promotion goes down to the final day, with a win for Alan Devonshire’s men against the already relegated Margate guaranteeing the Magpies as Champions. Should they slip up however, the Fleet will be hoping to take full advantage with a home win against Oxford City.

Meanwhile, both Poole and Hungerford Town are battling for the final playoff position, with the former holding a two-point advantage over their rivals going into Saturday’s encounters. However, both sides face teams above them in the standings, with Tom Killick’s men facing Dartford, while Hungerford host Chelmsford City.

The bottom three of the National League South have already been confirmed, with Gosport Borough joining Margate and Bishop’s Stortford in the Non-League Premier next season.

Ebbsfleet United to win against Oxford City @ 2/11 (Bet365, William Hill)

Dartford to win against Poole Town @ 13/10 (SkyBet)
