First Man City and then Tottenham wished Liverpool a merry Christmas with some shock defeats, and now we just have to wait to see whether Man City will also wish Liverpool a happy new year when they take them on at the Etihad on Thursday.
We’ve a free tip for Man City vs Liverpool, as well as free tips for Tuesday’s matches between Arsenal and Fulham and Cardiff and Tottenham, and Wednesday’s matches between Huddersfield and Burnley and Newcastle and Manchester United.
Arsenal vs Fulham (Tuesday 3.00)
Arsenal’s impressive early-season unbeaten run has quickly been forgotten after league defeats by Southampton and Liverpool and a Carabao Cup defeat by Tottenham, but a home match against Fulham looks the perfect opportunity to restore some confidence as the Gunners beat Fulham 5-1 away from home earlier in the season.
However, Fulham have brought in Claudio Ranieri since, and he’s tightened up Fulham’s defence with six of Fulham’s last eight matches producing less than 3.5 goals. So, with Arsenal a little out of form and the bookies going odds-against less than 2.5 goals, that looks the bet.

Cardiff vs Tottenham (Tuesday 5.30)
Cardiff have hauled themselves up to 16th place with four wins in their last nine matches and they may just be inclined to have a go at Tottenham if they watched Wolves beat Watford. However, Cardiff’s record against the top-six clubs this season doesn’t bode well as they’ve lost 5-1 to Manchester United, 4-1 to Liverpool, 5-0 to Manchester City, 4-1 to Chelsea, and 3-2 to Arsenal. What it may mean is this game is more open than the 1-0 Tottenham win in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and more like Cardiff’s other games against top-six opposition.
Mauricio Pochettino will surely have also cancelled all New Year’s Eve festivities for his squad after that defeat by Wolves. Hopefully, we’ll see the Spurs side that beat Bournemouth 5-0 and Everton 6-2 in the two games before their defeat by Wolves, and it could be time to bet on over 3.5 goals and over 4.5 goals.

Huddersfield vs Burnley (Wednesday 7.45)
This is unlikely to be a game that gets many punters going, but it could be a significant one for the two teams if they’re to have any hope of surviving relegation. Bottom club Huddersfield have endured seven straight defeats since a surprise win at Wolves, and just four goals in those seven games shows why Huddersfield are struggling.
Meanwhile, Burnley have scored more than once just four-times this season and tend to put defence before attack. So, it’s no surprise the last three matches between the two sides have ended 1-1, 0-0, and 0-0. That makes the odds-against less than 1.5 goals more tempting that odds-on for less than 2.5 goals.

Newcastle vs Manchester United (Wednesday 8.00)
The current Newcastle team aren’t renowned for producing high-scoring matches, but they may just get taken along for the ride by Manchester United’s new tactics of all-out attack. Indeed, whether it be during Mourinho’s last few games in charge or since the arrival of Ole Gunner Solskjaer, Manchester United’s last seven games have all produced at least four goals. Add in the 3-2 Manchester United win over Newcastle earlier in the season and it could be time to lump on more than 3.5 goals at odds-against.

Manchester City vs Liverpool (Thursday 8.00)
This is a match that could genuinely decide this season’s Premier League Title, with Liverpool having the chance to go 10 points clear of Man City if they win at the Etihad. However, of course, a win for City will see them close the gap to just four points. The Liverpool players can never have been more confident though after a run of nine straight wins in which they’ve scored 27 goals and conceded just three. Meantime, City also look vulnerable with Crystal Palace scoring three goals and Leicester two goals in their two recent defeats, whilst Southampton also breached the City defence last time.
Liverpool will also be confident after beating City twice in last season’s Champion League. However, the result of this game could depend heavily on how Jurgen Klopp sets his team out and it’s worth remembering the two teams drew 0-0 at Anfield earlier in the season. It’s tempting to go less than 2.5 goals at odds-against but, as Liverpool will probably be delighted to go home with a point, the draw looks slightly better value.
