Both the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers made it safely through to their respective Conference finals thanks to 4-0 series victories over the Utah Jazz and Toronto Raptors, meaning that upcoming action will focus upon who will join them.
In the Western Conference, the San Antonio Spurs hold a narrow advantage over the Houston Rockets going into Game 6, while the Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics are all square heading into Game 5 on Thursday morning.
Washington Wizards vs Boston Celtics – Game 5 – 11th May – 01:00am (UK Time)
Following successive wins at the Verizon Center, the Washington Wizards face what is perhaps the most important game since 1979. Having held 14+ point leads during Games 1 and 2 in Boston earlier on in the series, the Wizards undoubtedly have what it takes to overcome the number one seeds, with shooting guard Bradley Beal hoping to continue his impressive form from Game 4. However, with home advantage having proven crucial so far in the series, and with a potential Game 7 also being staged in Boston, the Wizards face an uphill battle against. Terry Rozier has been in superb form throughout the series, with Boston head coach Brad Stevens considering extending his minutes. Despite a strong series from the Washington front court, it is the Celtics who are the undoubted favourites on Thursday morning.
Washington Wizards to win against the Boston Celtics @ 6/4 (SkyBet, Betway)
San Antonio Spurs vs Houston Rockets – Game 6 – 12th May – 01:00am
With Game 5 seemingly in their hands, as they held the lead, the ball, and Kawhi Leonard on the bench injured, the Rockets threw away a big chance to take the lead in the series last time around. James Harden remains in fine form, and despite Leonard having declared himself fit for Game 6, it is the Rockets who are the favourites at the Toyota Center. With a win enough to earn San Anontonio a place in the Western Conference Finals, Gregg Popovich will be looking to the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge Dewayne Dedmon to use their experience in helping them to victory. A win for the Rockets would mean a deciding Game 7 on Sunday in Texas, as they hunt for a first conference title since 1995.
Meanwhile, taking into account the postseason games that have already been played, it is unsurprisingly Golden State Warriors that are the favourites to reclaim their NBA title, with an encounter with either the Rockets or Spurs unlikely to cause too much concern for Stephen Curry & Co.
However, with the Cavs having also romped their way to the Conference finals, Cleveland are also offered short odds of winning back-to-back titles, which would be Lebron James’ fourth.
