Manchester United v Liverpool Analysis
16:30 Kick Off on 20th Oct
Manchester United Form
12th position is unacceptable for the Premier League’s most frequent winners but, after a golden start under Ole Gunner Solskajaer, United’s fortunes appear to be in a downward spiral. United’s season started brilliantly with a 4-0 win over Chelsea but defeats a home defeat by Crystal Palace has been followed by two more unexpected losses to West Ham and Newcastle.
United have beaten Leicester at home and also drawn with Arsenal, but Liverpool’s defence will provide an acid test for a United side that has scored just five goals in their last seven Premier League matches.
Liverpool probably haven’t been at their brilliant best for most of this season but they have so many attacking options that they’ve won eight from eight and are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table. Liverpool have scored 20 goals and have the meanest defence having conceded just six goals.
But Liverpool have only shaded their last three games by a single goal, beating Leicester 2-1, Sheffield United 1-0, and Chelsea 2-1, but perhaps even that form against three improving teams is head and shoulders above United’s current form.
Manchester United vs Liverpool Head-To-Heads
What Manchester United do boast is a much better head-to-head record than Liverpool, as they’ve won 28 of their Premier League 54 encounters, whilst Liverpool have won just 14, and 12 have been draws. United have also won 16 of their 27 home games, whilst Liverpool have only come away from Old Trafford with three points on five occasions, whilt another seven matches have been draws.
United are also unbeaten in their last five home games against Liverpool, winning three of those and drawing two. That’s their best run against Liverpool since they went 10 home matches unbeaten against them between 1991 and 2000.
Another thing in United’s favour is Mo Salah’s poor record against them, as he can’t even boast an assist let alone a goal in his four matches against them.
