Let’s Get “Rich” At Cheltenham

Who wears pink suits; a hat and sunglasses in March? Which mysterious American made a fortune in investment banking? Which bookmaker owns most of the Cheltenham “certs.?” Who gets photographed buying a ‘Win £95m Euro lottery ticket’ when they have personal worth over £100m? Who gets dubbed “Fatcatinahat” by the tabloid press and then names a horse that? The trouble with Rich Ricci is that he is over hyped and over here. So we are going to knock his hat off.

Rich Ricci

Fatcatinahat recently became Chairman of BetBright, reportedly “because they were techie guys with a better mousetrap.” Do you want to be a mouse? The man lives in England but puts all of his money into Irish racing because he finds them “friendly.” But this reluctance to support British racing doesn’t apparently stop him hiring a cross-sea ferry to Cheltenham.

Anyway my hunt to get Rich hinges on the Prestbury Cup. Named after the nearest village to Cheltenham this was inaugurated in 2014 for the nation training the most winners at Cheltenham. So far Britain has won it twice. This year it is renamed the BetBright Cup, which must mean that Rich is presenting the trophy. Let’s all laugh when he gives it to GB captain Robert Thornton.

The pundits all say Ireland, but with Irish bookmakers Paddypower and Boylesport running particularly shy on GB, Betbright’s 4/5 on GB looks a gift. Even if all the Rich fancies oblige GB has strength in depth.

Don’t think that you can’t have a bit of Irish with your GB win. JP McManus, universally admired as a supreme betting guru; and the driver behind the wonder partnership with Pipe and McCoy, has not had it easy from Rich as of late. Despite colours of gold and green JP doesn’t let the GB side down on Day 2 of the festival with Yanworth in the Neptune. One of the best young horses McManus has, and trained by Alan King in Wiltshire, Yanworth looked an obvious Supreme horse but has been aimed at the Neptune all season. At the time of writing Paddy Power are going odds against, get some.

“We want to win the Gold Cup,” he said, “and if for whatever reason Vautour wasn’t going to run in the Gold Cup he would stay at home.”

Ricci gave no indication that Vautour’s preparation for Cheltenham was causing an issue.

Oh sorry your a bookie…Lying just come natural!….If you shake his hand, count your fingers.
