Lennox StakesGlorious Goodwood kicks off in style on Tuesday with a great looking card, the highlight of which is the Group-2 Lennox Stakes at 3.10.

The race is run over 7-furlongs, and has been a group-2 since 2003. The 13 renewals since then have been won by six 3-year-olds, five 5-year-olds, and two 4-year-olds.

The Hannon Stable have been the most successful with 3 winners, whilst owners Godolphin have also had plenty of success in the race with 3 winners.

8 runners are set to go to post for the 2016 Lennox Stakes.

Buckstay

Peter Chapple-Hyam trained 2007 winner Tariq, and Buckstay brings high-class handicap form to the table. He should get a strong pace to chase, but no 6-year-old has previously won the race, and has 6lb to find on ratings.

Dutch Connection

Now owned by Godolphin, the Charlie Hills trained 4-year-old has won twice at Group-3 level, including the Jersey Stakes at last year’s Royal Ascot meeting. He was also a course and distance winner as a 2-year-old, and was a close second in last year’s race on ground slower than ideal. Top-rated and should enjoy the way the race will be run.

Home Of The Brave

Another dual Group-3 winner, but the neck second in that final victory has only won at Listed-Level since. Likes to race prominently and, though he’s won on good-to-firm ground, there’s a suspicion he likes to get his toe in a little.

Markaz

Beaten over 4-lengths by Home Of The Brave earlier in the season, but might have needed that run as all his wins have been in June or July. Came back to form last time at Newcastle, and no surprise if he goes close as he’s rated just 1lb lower than the top-rated horses.

Tupi

Highly tried throughout his career, but could only finish last in the 2015 renewal, and is held by Dutch Connection on form.

Birchwood

Won a Group-2 as a 2-year-old, but had to drop to Listed-Level to regain winning ways after 6 losing runs at various levels. That win was also on much softer ground.

Dream Dubai

Won well on racecourse debut, but has failed to trouble the judge in three subsequent runs at Listed, Group-3 and Group-1 level. Is the least exposed of all the runners – but needs to find plenty of improvement from somewhere.

Gifted Master

Another who has won two Group-3s, as well as two valuable sales races. Won at 6-furlongs and 7-furlongs, and should be able to lead if connection want him to. His last run at Royal Ascot can also be forgiven due to the soft ground.

Lennox Stakes Summary

Dutch Connection and Home Of The Brave are joint top-rated, and it will be no surprise if they fight out the finish for Godolphin who like to aim horses at this race. Preference is for Dutch Connection though, who will prefer the faster ground, and has also proved himself over this unique course and distance.
