Horse Racing – Jim Bolger Stable Tour

April 9, 2017

Home / UK Horse Racing /

Like most Irish Racehorse trainers, Jim Bolger mainly lives in the shadow of Aidan O’Brien. However, he has won two Irish 1,000 Guineas, two Irish Derby’s, two Irish Oaks, 1 English 1,000 Guineas, one English 2,000 Guineas, one English Derby and one English Oaks.

In 2016, the Bolger Stable had a lot of problems with Ringworm but, with his team back in full-health, he’s kindly shared some of his hopes for 2017.

FLIGHT RISK
Group-3 winner who Bolger believes can win a weak group-1 given his ideal conditions, which his trainer believes are a steadily-run 7-furlongs on good-to-yielding, preferably at the Curragh.

HERALD THE DAWN
One of the horses that was badly affected by ringworm last season, and he never showed the form he had shown as a two-year-old. His trainer is very hopeful that he’ll prove to be a group-1 miler this season, but it may take a while to build him back up to his full-potential.

MOONLIGHT MAGIC
The stable’s main-hope in the older-horses’ division, and a clear run this season should see him winning at the top-table. The Tattersalls Gold Cup is his first major target and, should that go well, he could take in all the top 10-furlong races this season.

QATARI HUNTER
4 wins last year saw his mark rise to 107, and Bolger thinks he’ll win at least a group-3 this season on his best form. May also continue to improve, as he did last year, so he’s hopeful he may take even higher order.

SANUS PER AQUAM
A giant of a horse who, though he did well at two, has yet to fully fill his frame. Affected badly by ringworm last season, his trainer thinks he will get better and better throughout the next couple of seasons.

STELLAR MASS
Genuine group-performer who returned on Sunday without troubling the judge, However, that was in a decent race over 10-furlongs on soft ground, and he should be seen to much better effect over 12-furlongs on better ground.

TURRET ROCKS
Group-2 winner as a two-year-old, and yet another whose three-year-old career was blighted by ringworm. 10-furlongs is expected to be her best trip this year, and she’ll be taking in plenty of high-profile races.

TRIBAL BEAT
Big stuffy sort who made need a few runs to peak, but should continue to improve judged on his progressive profile last season. Already a group-2 winner, who should win more group races this season, but may need a good rest between races.

RADIO SILENCE

Finished runner-up in the Churchill Stakes behind Churchill last season and, though he wouldn’t want soft ground, his trainer thinks he could be a serious contender for either the Irish or English 2,000 Guineas.

COME AT DAWN

One of the first crop of Dawn Approach, and Bolger thinks this 2-year-old filly has plenty of pace and will be winning soon.
