India vs England Third Test Preview And Tips

Published on November 24, 2016 by Tim @ Betting Gods

Some people just don’t give a toss about cricket – but, those who do, know that the toss for the third-test between India and England (Saturday 4am) could be the most important factor in deciding the match. The winner will no doubt choose to bat first, and that’s looked a huge advantage in the two tests so far.

Betting To Win The Third Test: India 4/7, Draw 15/4, England 3/1 (Odds With Black Type)

At the prices, I can definitely make a case for backing England. So far, the pitch for the First Test was made for a draw, whilst the pitch for the Second Test ideally suited India, especially as they batted first, and their spin bowlers then took advantage of a pitch that started to turn sideways. However, there are a few reasons to think that the pitch for the Third Test will be more suited to England, as it’s a pitch that regularly helps seam bowlers, and the England Batsmen are more used to scoring runs under such conditions.

England will probably need to win the toss to maximise their chances, but at 3/1 there’s a bit of juice to play with. World-class seamer Jimmy Anderson should be right at home here, whilst Chris Woakes is also likely to return in place of Stuart Broad, and he should also enjoy conditions. Regarding batting, many have written England off after their mini-collapse in the second-Test, but the truth is no side could have coped with the ball turning like that. They should be much more at home here, and in Cook and Root they do have two genuine World-class batsmen. Stokes is also batting extremely well, and Haseeb Hameed may also find his stride under more familiar conditions. There’s talk of Jos Buttler returning too, and the talented one-day player could yet make his mark on the test stage.

India’s two biggest weapons may also be somewhat nullified by conditions, as Captain Virat Kohli had a massive pre-match average at the last ground (a statistic that led to a nice 3/1 winner last in the Second Test). The World’s best spinner Ravichandran Ashwin may also not be as potent a threat on this seamer’s wicket – so that’s enough to make me think that England do offer a touch of value, even if they do, probably, have to win the toss.

The other bet I’ll be having this time is Joe Root to be Top England Batsmen – and the 3/1 looks a decent price on a pitch that might suit him down to the ground.
