Many loyal England cricket fans are probably sick to the back teeth of getting beaten by India recently. However, after a 4-1 Test Match Series defeat and a 2-1 defeat in the ODI Series, it’s time for England to try and restore some much-needed pride by winning the India vs England T20 3-Match Series, with the first T20 Match starting at 11am on Thursday 26th January.
Match Betting: India 4/5, England 6/5
Whilst India were much the better side in the test series, and marginally the better side in the ODI series, whether they deserve to be such a shorter price than England in this format is open to debate.
Firstly, let’s take into consideration the fact that England hold a 5-3 head-to-head lead in this format over their opponents, including the last two matches which were one-off affairs in 2102 and 2014. Admittedly, they were mighty-close affairs with England winning in 2012 on the last ball, and winning by just 3 runs in 2014 – but they were wins none the less. Moreover, let us also remember that it was England who reached the final of the World Twenty/20.
The reasoning behind England being a value-bet goes much deeper than that though and, whilst India won the first two ODI matches, they did so with outstanding centuries from one or two players, whilst many of their other batsmen went for low-scores – and centuries are a much less common occurrence in T20 Matches.
Meanwhile, though the top England batsmen couldn’t quite muster the impressive match-winning scores of their Indian counterparts, the fact that more of them chipped-in with decent knocks should stand them in good stead. Eoin Morgan looked back to his best in scoring 102 and 43 in the last two matches, whilst Jason Roy and Joe Root are as good as anyone on their day. Add in the power-hitting of Ben Stokes, and the swashbuckling style of Sam Billings, and it’s hard to see England not scoring impressive totals in all 3 matches.
The depth of England limited-overs batting has never been in doubt though and, whilst the first two ODI matches were 2 of only 13 matches to have produced more than 700 runs, the fact England were producing record-breaking totals and still not winning suggests that it’s the bowling that needs improving.
Therefore, the final piece of evidence for backing England is that they have two specialist T20 Bowlers in the shape of Tymil Mills and Chris Jordan. Mills is capable of lobbing down balls at 93 MPH, which are never easy to hit in the heat of battle, whilst Jordan’s ability to bowl quality yorkers and the slower ball – should mean England can keep India guessing just enough to keep the run-rate down.
Recommended Bet : England To Win First ODI @ 6/5 (Skybet, Stan James)
Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a bit of value in the England Top Batsman Market, then look no further than England Captain Eoin Morgan, who has top-scored in 11 of the 23 T20 Matches that have either been one-offs or the first match in a series.
Recommended Bet : Eoin Morgan Top England Batsman @ 6/1 (Skybet)
