Horses To Follow In 2020 – Part Two

Following on from my part one blog a few days ago, part two of the 2020 horses to follow list is outlined below.

As always if I do perceive the horses to be value they will be sent out on either one of my two services; Quentin Franks Racing or QF Value Tips

Wots The Wifi Code (Tony Coyle) 3g rated 62

Showed little on his first three starts and went into the Ripon Hornblower with a mark of 57. Ran above expectations in placing 3rd behind the now 100 rated Ventura Lightning. It looked an even better effort given he raced wider than than the pair that beat him, something that generally isn’t beneficial to do at the course. His improved showing was also backed up by the clock which bodes well. He’s a gelding by Fast Company, a sire who’s progeny have a particularly good record when getting ease underfoot. Soft (35-211, 16.6% S/R, 1.38 A/E) in comparison to good to firm going (44-536, 8.2% S/R, 0.69 A/E). Despite it being well known that his progeny do well with ease underfoot his runners are still outperforming market expectations. His sole subsequent start he was back on fast ground and flopped, weak in the market all day circa 6/4 out to a BFSP of 5.08, stumbling at the start and never travelling thereafter. When getting back on soft ground I’ve no doubt he is a good deal better than his BHA mark of 62 and is one to follow under said conditions.

Rocket Dancer (Micheal Easterby) 3g rated 69

A gelding who has changed hands since his last run, formerly in the care of Sylvester Kirk and was picked up at the sales for 15,000gns to be trained by Mick Easterby. Dropped 5lbs for two spins on soft ground at the backend of last season he has been gelded since the sales. Feel he has more ability than he has been able to show to date. Strong in the market on all weather debut despite a wide draw at Chelmsford he ended posted 3 deep and was forced to cover extra. Once his chance of winning had gone he was never hard pressed to come home in 6th place. Physically he looks the type to to do a good deal better as a 3yo given the size and scope that he posses. He would be one to oppose on ground with ease underfoot but feel he may well be underestimated back on the all weather given he only came 6th on his sole start on an artificial surface. Toronado his sire has built up a terrific record on the all weather 40-213 (18.8% S/R, 1.28 A/E) and this is where he may be seen in the best possible light.

Chairmanic (Brian Meehan) 3g

Gelded since his sole start in a maiden at Newmarket at the end of September. Finished 7th of 8 this day but went like a horse with ability and short term may well be underestimated in a weakish sprint maiden. Travelling as good as any up until the two pole gradually fading away in the closing stages. He went of 103.94 BSP and traded as short as 4.00 in running which gives an idea of how well he went through the the race from a yard that seldom have them wound up first time out. He’s by G Force who had a limited career at stud due to fertility issues but was an out and out sprinter. He was found to be lame on on his left fore which may have attributed to him weakening dramatically late in the day.

Old Friend (Ed Walker) 3g

A really good looking type who was a tad on the weak side last season. Looks just the type to progress with a winter on is back. He’s half brother to connections Indian Blessing who won listed and group 3 races. Too green to do himself justice on fast ground at Ascot on debut he stepped forward at Kempton fading out of things close home just not strong enough to see out his race at this stage of his career. He’s by Fast Company who as mentioned above his progeny thrive when getting ease underfoot. Old Friends three siblings with wins next to their names Indian Blessing, Glade and Montalbano all have wins on soft/heavy ground. Likely to be given one more spin before handicapping off of a lowly mark and will be one to keep progressing as the season goes on.
