Well it appears as if publicity stunt-loving bookmaker Paddy Power got things right on the weekend.
Apparently the Irish bookmaker was responsible for the Grim Reaper who was sitting near the dugouts at Goodison Park on Sunday, as David Moyes took his below par United side to Merseyside, where he spent a decade managing the Toffees.
There is a picture circling the internet of a frustrated Moyes prowling on the sidelines, behind him at the front of the crowd, a Grim Reaper is mocking him with an inflatable scythe. The spectator was apparently set up by the bookmaker to pull off the act, in what was Moyes’s first visit back to Goodison since leaving last summer.
A spokesman from Paddy Power was quoted as saying: “It’s gone from bad to worse for David Moyes this season, which means the Grim Reaper could be looking to call time on his Old Trafford career.”
It was certainly an accurate portent for Moyes, who, seeing his side limp to a 2-0 defeat, was given the boot from Old Trafford on Tuesday. While the ‘Death’ spectator (who was wearing a Paddy Power shirt) got ejected from Goodison Park, it was a perfect mirror of what was about to happen to the Manchester United boss at Old Trafford.
While Ryan Giggs has stepped in to take charge of training this week at United, he’s a long shot to take over permanently, not really even being in the picture. United fans have made it known that they want Jurgen Klopp to come and rescue them, but the Borussia Dortmund boss has ruled himself out of the position, leaving bookmakers falling over themselves to trim the price on current Holland boss Louis van Gaal taking over.
